Council gets riverboat distribution update; cemetery commission appropriation clarified

County finance staff updated the board on riverboat (casino) distributions and clarified allowable uses. The finance report showed $434,005.10 on hand with roughly $44,000 expected later this fall; members discussed eligible uses and noted that county law and statute generally permit broad uses of unrestricted riverboat funds but bar using them to lower the county’s maximum property-tax levy. "Greene County, the money is not restricted by statute to roads, public safety, economic development, or other particular categories... It can generally be used for things such as salaries... or any other lawful county governmental expenditures," staff said.
