Commission backs changing rural‑ag density language to '2 dwelling units per minimum lot' for flexibility
Jun 3, 2026
Staff recommended, and commissioners supported for the Rural Agricultural Residential district, changing density language from a building‑type formulation to an explicit '2 dwelling units per minimum lot area' to allow flexibility (e.g., two single‑family houses or duplex combinations) while keeping controls on build‑out through PUD and other mechanisms.
The full story
As part of the Enable Housing package staff proposed shifting density language in the Rural Agricultural Residential (RAR) district from a single‑household/duplex rule to an explicit dwelling‑unit calculation: "2 dwelling units per minimum lot area." The change is intended to make the density math consistent with allowing a broader range of building types, including two single‑family homes or duplex configurations on larger lots, while preserving review pathways for clustering and PUDs.
