Residents urge clearer code-enforcement process and safer parks during public comment

Adrian Perez told the Board of Trustees that meetings were running too long and suggested departmental reports be moved to workshops or special meetings to reduce agenda time. Perez criticized what he described as “unprofessional arguments” among trustees and urged members to better understand statutes and procedures before debating them publicly.

Javier Barrio described volunteering to clean Adams Park and returning shopping carts to El Mercado, and said the park and nearby Morales Street need better visibility and protective features such as a rail. He also told the board that drivers speed most on Livesay Street. Martha Gutierrez asked the city to clarify the role and responsibilities of the city's code enforcement officer — specifically whether that officer can address junk vehicles, trash accumulation, and abandoned animals — and requested that the officer's contact information and a clear complaint process be posted on the city website.

The board did not take action on the public comments but Mayor Gabriel I. Holguin encouraged collaboration and problem-solving. The meeting record shows the board proceeded with public comment at 6:23 PM while attempting to contact an interpreter who had been delayed.
