Plan commission previews transportation corridor opportunity map for Monroe

Administrator Rindy introduced a draft transportation corridor or "opportunity" map that staff proposes to add to Monroe's comprehensive plan as a separate layer from the future land use map.

"This is kind of a discussion, just kind of wanting to give you guys a heads up and potentially seek any input," Rindy said, explaining the map would identify potential future roads, rights‑of‑way widths and buildable opportunity parcels. She said the map is intended to support future development negotiations and right‑of‑way planning but would not replace zoning.

Commissioners suggested a handful of priority areas to highlight — corridors leading to the new high school, the North Industrial Park and the Haven Hills/Highway N intersection — and asked staff to ensure the large parcels near Menards and the BNS property are included. Rindy said director of public works will mark likely routes and that the final plan, including this opportunity map, is scheduled for an early‑November draft release followed by a public review period in November.

Staff requested feedback in advance of the public draft; commissioners generally supported the idea of a separate corridor/opportunity layer while cautioning against over‑committing precise alignments that might later require repeated amendments.
