Residents, developers urge timely council action on data center projects

Multiple members of the public urged the Prince George's County Council to move promptly on proposed data center projects, arguing that additional procedural requirements and calendar delays would harm local workers and deter investors.

A resident who identified themselves during the public-comment period said delays that push decisions to June would be unfair to the local workforce and to residents who planned in good faith. "We have some people that have planned in good faith that are ready to make moves; every day that it's a delay there's a cost increase, and it discourages residents and even investors," the speaker said.

Another commenter representing a local development committee expressed concern about added site-plan presentation requirements and said the layers of review create hardship and the appearance that approvals might be deferred until after the election cycle. A third speaker urged the council to streamline approvals where possible and to position Prince George’s County as a regional hub for data infrastructure and jobs.

Council members did not act on data-center approvals at this meeting; the public-comment speakers asked the council to consider the economic and workforce consequences when setting timelines and procedural requirements.
