District leaders told the board that George Whittell High School currently has a single egress and that school safety review recommended pursuing a secondary emergency access route. Superintendent Alvarado said the county owns adjacent property and there is an old logging road that could serve as an emergency access, but staff do not know the road's condition. He gave a staff estimate that a study and abatement/tree removal could cost between $100,000 and $1 million and noted that the county's future bus yard plans complicate cost-sharing.
