Springfield Selectboard issues statement after resident's repeated complaints, says hydrant access cannot be conditioned

At its Aug. 24 meeting the Selectboard read a statement addressing repeated communications and legal threats from resident Steven Piispanen, clarified the towing of his vehicle and said the Town reimbursed $1,300 after the towing was later found to lack sufficient legal basis; the Board emphasized it will not condition access to emergency infrastructure on unrelated land-use outcomes.

The Springfield Selectboard opened its Aug. 24 meeting with a public statement about ongoing disputes with resident Steven Piispanen, saying the Town has received numerous communications and that “the appeal period expired on August 17, 2026,” with no appeal filed to the Town’s knowledge. Erin Meding, vice chair, read the statement on behalf of the Board and said the Selectboard would not take public comment on these matters that evening.
