Board tables proposal to seek municipal solar RFP amid questions on savings and commitment

At the June 24 meeting, Supervisor Lorna Yearwood presented a proposal to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a ground‑mounted solar array to supply 100% of the township's electricity under a power purchase agreement (PPA). Yearwood framed the RFP as a no‑upfront‑cost option that could deliver immediate savings, saying potential savings were estimated at "$100,000–180,000 over 25 years," and stressed urgency tied to expiring federal incentives.

Several board members expressed reservations. Mr. Hopkins and Mr. Ryker questioned the long‑term commitment of a PPA and said they preferred focusing on making it easier for residents to adopt rooftop solar. Mr. Dave Long disputed the savings projection as "based on assumptions and speculation" and urged more concrete numbers. On a motion by Mr. Ryker, seconded by Mr. Hopkins, the board voted 3–2 to table the discussion until the September 2025 meeting, with supervisors Yearwood and Kade voting in opposition. Board members discussed adding a capital reserve line item for solar in the next budget cycle as part of further evaluation.
