Planning Commission advances rural-lands policy changes, adds tribal-lands section and defers some code changes

The commission reviewed and recommended multiple changes to the rural and resource lands chapter: it added wildlife-corridor and aquifer-protection policies, directed staff to compile tribal-lands data and create a new tribal-lands background section, discussed cluster development cautiously, and deferred garden-definition and certain agriculture-code changes to an upcoming agricultural advisory council.

At length the Planning Commission moved through a deliberations table of comments, staff recommendations and proposed text changes for the rural and resource lands chapter and related code. Commissioners approved adding language to identify and prioritize wildlife corridors and to "identify and protect natural areas contributing to aquifer recharge." They also voted to add a new background section to acknowledge tribal lands and treaty rights and to assess and compile data for tribal and military lands.
