Progreso ISD board approves Region 1 safety and security audit

The Progreso ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve a Region 1 three-year district safety and security audit after a presentation by district staff.

The presenter (S3) told trustees the audit, conducted April 14'1 May 20, examined each campus, instructional facility, the football field, playgrounds and maintenance and transportation buildings. "So we contracted with Region 1 to conduct our 3 year audit," the presenter said, noting the audit met the state deadline.

The audit highlighted district strengths in access control and visitor management, including picture identification, updated ID badges and check-in/check-out procedures at campus entrances, the presenter said. The report also found emergency operations plans and floor plans updated districtwide, perimeter fencing in place, life-safety equipment current, and direct connections from campus alarm systems to local dispatch.

The presenter said staff perform annual trainings in conflict resolution and bullying prevention and that campuses have been running scheduled emergency drills. "All this has been communicated to our staff before the beginning of the year," the presenter added, while noting a few minor classroom issues (for example, removal of longer extension cords and decorative items that conflict with fire-marshal guidance) had been addressed or scheduled for correction.

Board action: a board member moved to approve the audit report and, after the presiding officer called for ayes, the motion passed by voice vote.
