Webb County approves expanded early-voting sites and 8–8 hours for primary

The Webb County Commissioners Court approved a slate of temporary early-voting locations and 12-hour voting days to increase access for working voters in advance of the March primary. Elections staff said the proposal keeps the main hub at Billy Hall and includes additional temporary sites — Barbara Faskin, Laredo Fire Department, City Hall Annex, Sierra Recreation Center, Laredo Medical Center, Encenizo Transportation Center, Bruni Community Center and Marco Saranda Community Center — and that hours will generally be 8 a.m.–8 p.m. during the early-voting periods.

Mr. Castillo, representing the elections office, told the court the expanded hours were proposed to help voters who work conventional daytime hours: "It'll give them an opportunity to go ahead and vote," he said. The court also discussed outreach for more remote precincts and confirmed printing of approximately 140,000 voter registration certificates to be mailed within the next one to two weeks. Commissioners noted the change should make voting easier for county employees and residents who otherwise must leave work to vote.
