Committee fast-tracks study after two students killed at Charleston intersection

After emotional testimony from a victim’s mother, the committee unanimously approved H.4900 to study a dangerous Septima P. Parkway intersection in Charleston where two College of Charleston students were killed within 14 months.

Representative Gilliard told the committee that H.4900 calls for a study of a Charleston intersection with increasing development and a history of crashes. "4,900 is very near and dear to many people back in Charleston County," she said, arguing the area's growth around colleges, events and the port requires a fresh, expedited review.
