County Engineer Catherine Nicholas told the Board Aug. 25 that the Wheeler Road Bridge has been closed since 2020 and that replacing it is estimated to cost approximately $1.4 million; she said the bridge previously carried an average of about 40–50 vehicles per day. Nicholas also updated the Board on the Washburn drainage district project and said an Iowa DOT brochure will be provided to a resident asking about the use of ATVs, UTVs and golf carts. Nicholas summarized applicable roadway rules: "ATVs are permitted under Iowa law for individuals age 18 and older; golf carts are not permitted on the roadway in question."
