Council appoints Janet Wood to Cheboygan Library Board

The Cheboygan City Council on July 28 appointed Janet Wood to the library board for a term to expire June 30, 2029.

Two applicants spoke during the agenda-item public-comment period. Janet Wood described long ties to the community and a focus on children’s programming, saying, “I think the library is the most happeningiest place in town. And I think that I would like to see that continue, and I would especially like to see more activities for children.” Margaret Gosselin, who identified herself as another applicant, said she moved back two years ago to raise her son and noted concerns about potential future cuts to federal and state funding that support interlibrary loans.

Councilwoman Darling moved to appoint Janet Wood and Councilman Dodd seconded the motion. The council approved the appointment on a roll-call vote. Chair encouraged both applicants to consider other open volunteer positions and noted the city is seeking additional volunteers for planning, zoning, brownfield, and housing commission vacancies.

The appointment fills a board vacancy and continues the library board’s work on programming and service continuity; the council asked interested residents to contact City Hall for other volunteer opportunities.
