The full story

The Board approved a request from broadband provider Breezeline for a six‑month extension to complete work under the Caroline East VATI Grant 2023 project, forwarding the extension request to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). IT Director David Sadler told the Board that 198 miles of fiber have been completed and 2,170 previously unserved homes are now served. Remaining zones are expected to be released May–July 2026, and Breezeline cited planting‑season field access restrictions and private driveway easement issues impacting about 220 homes as reasons for the extension.
