Isanti County raises questions about Flock camera pilot, data access and liability

Residents and commissioners used the public comment period and county business discussion to press for details about the Flock license‑plate camera trial and what happens after the county stops using it. Jeff Holmgren, introduced to the board as being from the City of Isanti, told commissioners: "I'm against them." He asked whether the cameras would be taken down immediately and whether data collection would continue.

A committee member told the board replacement of damaged units could be expensive, saying, "It could be up to $7,000 for 1 of those cameras." Administrator Amanda reported she had asked the sheriff for clarification and said, "access will end at the end of August where officers won't be able to access it anymore," and that she would confirm with Flock whether Flock itself would continue collecting data and whether covering or removing units could create liability. The board asked staff to obtain a public statement from the sheriff and to follow up with Flock; there was no formal vote on removing units at this meeting.
