Representative Hartnett introduced amendment 27 proposing that all school buildings and restrooms provide at least one single-stall changing facility "for a person of any sex or gender," describing a longtime friend who had transitioned and saying the measure was meant to protect dignity when attending school events. "I'm trying to give people like my friend an opportunity to protect their dignity," Hartnett said in brief remarks.
