Smith County Road & Bridge reports two blades down, operators in training
Assistant Road & Bridge Supervisor John Kautz told commissioners two blades are currently out of service and that blade operators are training together; commissioners identified multiple roads and bridges needing work ahead of harvest and school transport season.

County road operations featured prominently at the Aug. 17 meeting as commissioners reviewed a list of specific segments needing attention and discussed equipment and staffing constraints. Chairman Kurt Ifland listed multiple roads including J Rd, I Rd, 200 Rd, 130 Rd and L Rd; Assistant Supervisor John Kautz said "there are 2 blades down right now" and noted blade operators were training together, which he said affects mobilization.
