Commission on Aging sets deadlines to finalize AARP action plan draft

The City of Buda Commission on Aging moved forward on drafting its AARP action plan, with a commissioner volunteering to assemble materials and set near-term deadlines for review and approval.

Commissioner Linda, who volunteered to compile the materials from the writing group, said she will take existing reports (a walk audit, samples from other cities, the AARP template and prior community assessments) and produce a draft. "So by May 12, I'm sending a draft to Jeff and Faith and Brandice," she said, adding that the final packet should be ready for distribution by May 15 so commissioners can review ahead of the next meeting.

Staff and commissioners discussed whether the commission should send the draft to AARP before securing city-council support. Melinda Hodges, library director and staff liaison, advised the commission that city branding rules would apply only if the document were an official city release and suggested coordinating with the mayor and council before external submission. Commissioners tentatively set a target to vote on the commission's final plan in mid-June, which could allow for a city-council agenda slot as early as July 15 if packet deadlines are met.

The commission directed the writing group to finalize content and return the draft for consideration; no formal vote on the action plan occurred at this meeting.
