Commission clears paint application for Creative Goldsmiths; issues certificate authorization

The Skagway Municipality Historic District Commission approved building paint application 2026071 for Creative Goldsmiths of Alaska and authorized the permitting official to issue a certificate of approval. Commissioners determined the proposed repainting in existing colors complies with the historic-district paint palette.

The applicant identified himself as the store manager and responded to commissioners’ questions about color samples: "I manage the store," he said when asked to state his affiliation. The permitting official confirmed that the colors shown (a range of yellowish pink and cream) fall within the code palette and that there are no palette restrictions that would block approval. After a brief exchange the commission voted 3-0 to approve the application and to authorize the certificate's issuance.

The commission closed the public hearing and instructed the permitting official to proceed with the administrative certification. Commissioners noted the building’s peeling paint in the submitted photos and said repainting would improve the downtown appearance.
