Morgan County waives preliminary application for Tri‑State transmission pre‑application
Following a Feb. 27 pre‑application conference, Morgan County staff recommended and the Board agreed not to require a preliminary application for Tri‑State's proposed 230‑kV Big Sandy–Badger Creek transmission project affecting parts of the county; the Board voted 3‑0 to waive the preliminary step.

County planning staff reported on a preapplication meeting with Tri‑State Generation and Transmission Association and Power Engineers concerning a proposed 230‑kV overhead transmission line from the Big Sandy substation to a new Badger Creek switching station. Planning Administrator Nicole Hay said the preapplication provided sufficient detail and that she "recommend[ed] not requiring a preliminary application," asking the Board for guidance on submittal requirements and notification scope.
