County adopts LDC changes to allow state-defined home-based businesses by right

The board approved LDC 26‑006 and Ordinance 26‑045 to add 'home based businesses' as a permitted residential use in line with Florida statute 559.955; staff said new regulations address parking, noise, appearance and safety while residents asked clarifying questions about local classifications and protections for neighborhoods.

County planning staff presented amendments to the Land Development Code to implement state law changes that require counties to allow home-based businesses in residential zoning districts. "This is pretty much just an update to the land development code to allow home based businesses by right instead of by conditional use," Caitlin Thompson, principal housing planner, told the commission.
