Consultant says seven cost‑saving changes could head off a large 2027 rate jump

Spencer Allen presented a package of seven proposals to the Cherokee County Board that the consultant says could turn a projected 14.7% fully‑insured equivalent increase into a net reduction in modeled rates and generate about $5 million in savings by the end of 2027.

Spencer Allen of Spencer Allen & Associates told the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 18 that the county has saved ‘‘$84,000,000 over the last decade’’ through a series of vendor changes and point solutions and then walked commissioners through proposed 2027 plan design and vendor changes intended to curb rising health‑care costs.
