County accepts climate vulnerability assessment to guide resilience and grant work

Consultant Craig A. Smith & Associates presented a Glades County Vulnerability Assessment—using LiDAR, FEMA zones, and hydrologic modeling for 2040/2070 scenarios—to identify high‑vulnerability basins and inform mitigation and grant eligibility. The Board accepted the report 5‑0.

Orlando Rubio of Craig A. Smith & Associates presented the Glades County Vulnerability Assessment and described work performed under s.380.093, Florida Statutes, including LiDAR topographic analysis, land‑use and soils review, FEMA zone mapping, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling for 100‑ and 500‑year, 3‑day storm events. The study inventoried critical assets across infrastructure, community/emergency facilities, natural and cultural resources, and evacuation routes, then combined exposure and asset data to assign risk levels and focus areas for mitigation.
