Berrien County approves PACE program to spur privately financed energy projects

The Board approved a resolution to establish a PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) program under PA 270 of 2010, allowing private lenders to finance efficiency and renewable projects with no County funding or collection responsibility.

The Berrien County Board of Commissioners voted Aug. 27 to establish a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program under PA 270 of 2010, enabling private commercial lenders to finance energy-efficiency, renewable-energy and water-conservation projects for eligible commercial, industrial, agricultural and 4+ unit residential properties. Dan Fette, Community Development Director, told commissioners that the program requires no County funds and that "The PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy), PA 270 of 2010, was created to assist commercial, industrial, agricultural and 4+ unit residential properties."
