Walter, an FDOT traffic operations engineer, presented a safety review of State Road 64 at County Road 663 in Ona, reporting 41 crashes in the 2020–2025 review window, including fatal and serious‑injury crashes and a recurring pattern of northbound CR‑663 vehicles failing to stop. "One of the things we're looking to do to improve safety is, lower the speed," he said, and outlined a phased speed‑reduction plan with transition zones, in‑pavement 40‑mph markers and oversized stop signs with flashing beacons to increase driver attention.
