Historic commission advances commemorative signage drafts, seeks vendor samples

The Washington Grove Historic Preservation Commission reviewed draft text and image selections for commemorative signs for the Auditorium, Tabernacle, Hotel and Girls' Clubhouse and assigned follow-up tasks to finalize designs.

Wendy Harris reported that sign text for those four features has been completed and that additional sign text remains to be written. Mimi Styles said that Phil Winter scanned the existing photographs on a professional scanner and that a few additional photographs may still need identification and scanning. The minutes note that Pannier, a Pennsylvania company, responded and "offered to send sample panels, powder-coat color samples, and a catalog," while Nova Color of Utah had been less responsive and material samples remained outstanding. The Commission asked that draft compositions be shared with Sam Suzich for possible layout refinements before the project advances too far.

Members assigned specific next steps: Wendy, Mimi and Chair Bob Booher will continue developing sign text, selecting images and refining remaining sign concepts; Mimi will follow up with vendors and share material samples when available; Wendy will check with Phil Winter about additional information on women’s-club and train-station images; and Bob will contact Sam Suzich regarding design/layout assistance. The Commission did not adopt final sign designs at this meeting; work will continue and sample materials will be reviewed at a future meeting or in-person session.
