The Conservancy introduced a closed-loop compost pilot that will keep plant and woody material generated in the park on-site and convert it into compost and mulch for park landscapes, including Conservatory Garden beds and tree plantings.

A presenter for The Conservancy described a closed-loop compost project intended to keep plant and woody material generated in Central Park "in the park" so nutrients can be returned to the soil. "We're doing that through a compost operation where we can produce really high quality compost that can bring all those benefits back into our landscapes," the presenter said, describing the pilot as a way to close nutrient cycles on-site.
