Sequim planning commission continues 2025 comprehensive plan hearing to Oct. 6

The Sequim Planning Commission voted unanimously to continue its publicly noticed hearing on the city's 2025 comprehensive plan periodic update and corresponding Title 18 zoning amendments to Oct. 6, 2026. The commission asked staff to prepare a consolidated public-comment response document addressing written and oral testimony before commissioners deliberate further.

Carla Bowden, the city's Director of Community and Economic Development, told the commission that the record is large and that additional time will allow staff to organize responses to issues including infrastructure, housing, critical areas and text amendments. "We are recommending continuing this public hearing to their October 6th Planning Commission meeting," Bowden said during her presentation. Commissioners then made, seconded and approved the motion to continue, and the chair announced the motion passed unanimously.

Why it matters: the continuance pauses the calendar for the council-level hearing previously contemplated for late September and gives staff time to respond to extensive public input before the Planning Commission makes a recommendation to the City Council. The continuance will also change subsequent noticing and schedule items tied to the plan's adoption process.

The commission recorded the motion to continue the hearing and cancel the September 15 regular meeting to allow staff time to prepare the consolidated response, and staff said it will update the city website and schedule accordingly.
