Council schedules public hearing on proposed open-burning code changes

Councilmember T.J. Byrne reported discussions with the Fire Chief about new burn-permit requirements, said residents will be able to apply online or by phone beginning in 2026, and the council voted unanimously to amend City Code 3-2-4 and hold a public hearing.

Councilmember T.J. Byrne summarized planned changes to Harrison City Code 3-2-4 ("Open Burning") and said he had conferred with Fire Chief Patt about new requirements. Byrne told the council that, beginning in 2026, residents will be able to apply for a burn permit online or by phone and that the city must hold a public hearing prior to adopting any code changes.
