Council adopts traffic‑control code changes, official map and new e‑bike rules including 10 mph greenway limit

The council reviewed and adopted updates to Chapter 10 of the town code to codify traffic‑control devices on an official interactive map and to add new traffic‑related rules, including a new article addressing electric‑assisted bicycles.

Terry Jones (presented in the meeting as the county attorney) described the mapping approach that will place stop signs, yield conditions, school zones, speed limits and parking restrictions on an interactive public map authorized by state law. Town staff said this will reduce the number of textual ordinance pages and allow future additions to appear automatically on the map.

On e‑bike rules, assistant town attorney Diamond Spain said enforcement cannot always rely on visual classification of a bike class, so the proposed ordinance emphasizes observable behavior and adds a posted 10‑mile‑per‑hour speed limit on pedestrian greenways: "I did go in and add a speed limit of 10 miles per hour on any pedestrian right away, greenways, or anything where pedestrians are generally going to be." Councilors thanked the staff and police for their work and voted to adopt the chapter amendments by voice vote.

Staff noted that some older ordinances lacking mapping dimensions will be corrected in follow‑up work and that the mapping tool will be publicly accessible once finalized.
