Commission hears plan for community-center programming, RFP and $100,000 programming lineitem

Chair Lydia called for an update on community-center programming, and Lily, who is coordinating programming logistics, outlined a procurement plan and a budget estimate.

"So we're gonna do an RFP...people will have 30 days to submit a scope of work, and then a committee will ultimately choose the programming that will be at the community center," Lily said, describing plans to solicit proposals for classes ranging from "mommy and me" to Tai Chi for seniors. She said existing general ledger (GL) lines cover activities such as yoga in the park and paddle programs and gave a rough programming budget of about $100,000.

Lily also described operational constraints: the community center is not open because staff are still awaiting a temporary certificate of occupancy (TCO). "We're waiting on a TCO," she said, and added that while staff assemble furniture and prepare the space, some programming (for example, YMCA after‑school offerings) may remain at schools until the center opens.

The commission asked about the selection process and committee membership; Lily said she had discussed the structure with legal and expects a resident-centered selection committee but had not finalized the membership. She promised more detail at a future meeting once the RFP timeline is set.

Looking ahead, Lily said staff are aiming to have the center operational once the TCO is granted and programming proposals are evaluated. The commission did not take formal action at this meeting; next procedural steps are the RFP issuance and the committee selection process.
