Commissioners begin reshuffle in Road & Bridge as superintendent resigns
Smith County commissioners accepted the resignation of road superintendent Travis Story effective Nov. 21, 2025, and outlined hiring plans for a permanent supervisor and an interim fill while asking foremen to prioritize maintenance and daily plans.

Commissioner Jim Gwennap said the board is actively seeking a new road and bridge supervisor and an interim supervisor to fill responsibilities when Travis Story transfers departments. "At this point the road and bridge department is not going to take on any more large projects," Gwennap said, and the board asked foremen to keep service and maintenance at the top of their lists.
