Senators passed AB 1743, expanding authorized requesters of firearm trace data from the California Department of Justice to additional trusted partners for research and public-safety purposes; the measure passed 28–10 after floor debate.

Senator Grayson presented AB 17 43 as a bill that would allow additional specified local governments, state agencies and universities to request firearm-trace data from the California Department of Justice. "Trace data ... is a powerful tool that can link suspects to crimes, identify traffickers, and uncover patterns in the sources of guns that cause harm in our communities," Grayson said on the floor.
