Councilmember Brianne Nadeau, chair of the Committee on Public Works and Operations, introduced B26‑1174 — the Enhancing Consumer Protection Procedures Amendment Act of 2025 — and told the committee it updates the Consumer Protection Procedures Act to give enforcement agencies more tools against unfair or deceptive business practices. She said the bill "expands OAG's authority in court proceedings to swiftly gather information and to close a business," and grants the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) power to issue cease‑and‑desist orders and to suspend or revoke licenses for owners who ignore orders or pose public‑health or safety threats.
