The Massachusetts Senate adopted amendment 635 to increase the Head Start state supplemental grant program by $1,500,000, raising the total to $21,500,000. Senator Jacob R. Olivera said the increase responds to federal funding stagnation, rising operational costs and staff shortages; he told the chamber Head Start programs statewide serve more than 10,000 children and employ nearly 4,000 staff.
