Dumas commission approves test drilling and well downsizing as drought plan is implemented

Facing low output from existing wells and routine summer conservation, the commission approved two test holes near the golf course, authorized downsizing of Well No. 14 to meet regulatory limits, and reviewed the annual voluntary drought contingency phase running May 1–Sept 30.

Public Works Director Isidro Renteria told the Commission the golf course’s shallow wells are not producing adequate volume and requested two test holes near Well MO‑1297 to identify deeper sources. The commission unanimously approved Hydro Resources to drill the test holes for $8,880, to be paid from the water project fund.
