Evergreen Elementary construction 'moving along' as board hears schedule, GMP plan

Board members heard a construction update for Evergreen Elementary, including site readiness, poured footings, prefabrication of walls on site and early procurement of long‑lead mechanical items. The presenter said the project team has executed three contract amendments and that GMP 3, which will encompass the full project budget, will be presented at the next board meeting.

"The project is moving along extraordinarily well," the presenter said, noting sidewalks, utilities and extensive early work already in place. The presentation included design details (multi‑story building, neutral colors) and a planning capacity of about 600 students. The presenter confirmed 90% construction documents are scheduled for Oct. 19 and that 100% construction documents should follow by mid to late December.

Superintendent Dr. Wenzel and staff cautioned the board that the move‑in schedule is tight. "With the July 27 [occupancy] it allows us about 3 weeks right before everybody arrives," the superintendent said, underscoring ongoing risk monitoring, contingency and the need for punch‑list completion and furniture staging so the building is turnkey for students and staff.

The board was told the project team is using a progressive design‑build approach that includes constructability reviews and value engineering executed during design; early buyouts and prefabrication are being used to manage long‑lead times and minimize schedule risk.
