Lander council authorizes participation in FirstNet to boost emergency cellular service

Chief Shields told the council that joining the FirstNet/AT&T ValuePoint agreement would move the city from Union Wireless to FirstNet, provide priority service in outages, and save roughly "$200 to $300 a month"; the council authorized participation tonight and the full contract will return for signature later.

The council authorized the city to participate in the FirstNet agreement (Master Agreement MA149-1 / contract 205136) for AT&T cellular services through the Utah NASPO ValuePoint procurement. Chief Shields told the council the change "moves the entire city from Union Wireless to FirstNet," offering priority service during emergencies and better reliability; he added, "It will save the city approximately 2 to $300 a month right now for the next 3 years." He described past outages during windstorms when current service failed and said FirstNet had added towers and mobile capability that ensure priority connectivity for agencies enrolled on the network.
