Sheriff Shannon Moon told the Board that K9 Riggs, a canine added to Nevada County's force in 2024, suffered a medical emergency and died despite veterinary care. Moon outlined Riggs' training and more than 50 deployments, and noted community and nonprofit support for canine programs.
