Council authorizes budget increase to extend administrative intern through fall semester

Falcon Heights approved Resolution 26-7-1 to increase the part-time administrative line from the budgeted $5,000 to $20,000 so the city can hire an intern for the September–December term; staff said the change is more economical than staffing agencies charging $50–$60 per hour.

City Administrator Jack Linehan told the council the city originally budgeted $5,000 for an administrative intern in 2026 but circumstances — including a vacancy in the Administrative and Communications Coordinator position and additional planned staff leave — required extending the intern's tenure. Year-to-date intern expenditures were about $11,000; Linehan requested authorization to increase the part-time line to $20,000 to cover a fall semester intern (September–December).
