Trustees debated Northwest/Central attendance boundaries, split votes for several campuses, and voted to close Sugar Mill Elementary by a 4-3 margin; an original omnibus motion failed and was later reconsidered and carried as amended 4-3.

The full story

The board's consideration of Northwest/Central attendance boundaries included multiple floor amendments and a close sequence of votes. Trustees voted to separate votes on boundaries for six campuses (Neill, Pecan Grove, Malala, Madden, Seguin and Jordan); that motion passed 4-3 during the discussion. Attempts to remove Arizona Flemming and Mission West from the package failed 3-4. An amendment to remove Sugar Mill from the omnibus motion carried 4-3, and a subsequent motion to close Sugar Mill Elementary passed 4-3 with trustees Tassin, Gilliam, Charania and Heyliger voting in favor.
