County agrees to delete unclear "ghost" parcel and abate $304 in taxes

Aug 27, 2026

County staff told commissioners they were unable to locate a 0.128‑acre parcel on GIS after research back to 1955 and recommended deleting it and abating taxes totaling $304 (2020–2026). The board approved the deletion and tax abatement; staff said the parcel will be removed from records as of pay 2027.

The full story

County treasurer's staff presented research on a small, poorly described parcel that cannot be located on modern GIS maps and appears to have been absorbed into adjoining parcels over decades. The parcel (described in staff notes as roughly 0.128 acres north and south of a railroad right‑of‑way) carried unpaid taxes from 2020 through 2026 totaling $304 including penalties and costs.
