Elementary administrators outline six-element Tier 1 lesson plan and unit road map

Elementary administrators told the board they have implemented a districtwide effort to increase consistency in Tier 1 instruction across the three elementary schools, using a six-element explicit lesson-plan template and shared unit road maps. An administrator described the template's focus areas — review of prior learning, clear learning targets, success criteria, assessments (including checks for understanding), scaffolded instruction and feedback — and said these elements are being emphasized in professional development and collaborative planning.
