During his opening remarks and later answers, city manager candidate Rudy Bean repeatedly highlighted harbor and road infrastructure as essential to life and economy in remote communities like Unalaska. He said the harbor supports both subsistence users and commercial vessels and that maintaining and upgrading port and road systems is critical: "Without it, you know, our community probably wouldn't survive very, very, very long," Bean said.
