District says changes to advanced 7th-grade testing affect year-to-year scores

Trustees were told this year advanced 7th-grade students took the 8th-grade STAAR, which can lower 7th-grade averages and explain some apparent performance drops in 7th-grade math when compared with prior years.

During the workshop a staff member (S3) explained that the district changed how advanced 7th-grade students are tested: instead of some advanced students taking the 7th-grade STAAR, the district moved them to the 8th-grade STAAR to align assessment to instruction.
