Houston County proclaims Suicide Prevention Month; Cpl. Amanda Shell recognized for school shooting response

The board adopted a proclamation recognizing September as Suicide Prevention Month, with Chrystal Wasden urging awareness and citing the 988 crisis line; the board also publicly recognized Cpl. Amanda Shell for her role during the Aug. 12 Warner Robins High School shooting response.

Chairman Perdue presented a proclamation recognizing September as Suicide Prevention Month. Chrystal Wasden of Mental Health Matters addressed the board, provided statistics about suicide prevention and warning signs, and noted that the crisis and suicide prevention line can be reached by dialing "988." Several local partners, including Judge Lumsden, Sheriff Matt Moulton, the coroner and representatives from NAMI and Middle Flint Behavioral Health Systems, attended in support.
