Commission advances agrivoltaics definition to align local code with state law
To comply with House Bill 508 (effective July 1, 2026), the Planning Commission recommended a zoning-text amendment updating the County definition of "agrivoltaics" to emphasize intentional co-location of agricultural production and solar generation with protections for agricultural productivity and decommissioning.

The Rockbridge County Planning Commission on Aug. 12 recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt an updated definition of "agrivoltaics" in Chapter 30, Article III, Section 30‑12 of the County Code to conform with House Bill 508, which became effective July 1, 2026.
