Olmsted County explains tabulation, duplication for damaged ballots and certification process

Olmsted County Elections said ballots are prepared for tabulation under Minnesota election law, unreadable ballots are set aside and duplicated by two election judges, absentee counts are combined with election-day totals after polls close at 8 p.m., and the canvassing board reviews and certifies results.

Turner said ballots are prepared for tabulation "according to Minnesota election law," and described the county's central count process. He explained the county uses a central count tabulation machine and that if the machine detects an issue the ballot is set aside and "goes through a duplication process where 2 election judges carefully transfer the voter's choice to a new ballot."
