Staff introduced proposed language to incorporate data centers into Platte County land‑use rules and said there has been limited public comment so far. Commissioners debated whether to require rezone to industrial for large data centers, keep the current special‑use permit approach, or regulate by measurable impacts such as power and water consumption rather than building size. One commissioner argued that rezoning would preserve the commission’s ability to impose conditions: “Why wouldn't we just keep it the same? … rezone to industrial then get us best use from it,” he said.
